Black History Month 2026
At HTSJ, we celebrate the fact that we are a diverse church, welcoming people from many different cultures, backgrounds and nationalities. This Black History Month, we seek to rejoice in our diversity, to reflect, together, on the impact that racism has had on Black communities, in the UK and throughout the world, and to commit to working for a community where racial injustice is no more.
We will be marking Black History Month in two special services on Sunday October 18th

At 10.30am, our children and young people from GMH communities will lead our Intergenerational Worship, helping us to think about how the Holy Spirit sent Philip to cross national boundaries by sharing the gospel with an Ethiopian eunuch and bringing the church to Ethiopia. You can read that story in Acts 8.
At 5.15pm, at our Reflective Communion service Sarah, from the HTSJ congregation, will reflect upon her recent experience of working in Uganda, and how this visit challenged her assumptions about belonging and culture in different ways. The service will include the lighting of candles and prayers for racial justice and the invitation to participate in an Act of Commitment to racial justice.
Then, on Saturday October 24th, do join us for our Black History Month Intercultural Celebration

There will be food, stories, reflections and a chance to spend time together in community.
In the book of Revelation, the last book of the Bible, the writer sees a vision of heaven as "a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne" (Revelation 7:9). In celebrating our diversity, we aim to capture a glimpse of that vision here on earth.
