Funerals

Funeral

When somebody we love dies, it is a difficult and confusing time. We are grieving, and yet there is much to be done and many decisions to be made.

A Christian funeral can be tailored to your needs and the wishes of your loved one while including the strong and timeless words of hope and comfort found in the teachings of the Bible. If your loved one lived in the parish or had a strong link with either Holy Trinity or St John's church, even if that link was a long way back, we would be honoured to conduct their funeral, whether or not they attended church regularly.

If you are looking to arrange a funeral, it's best to go first to the funeral directors of your choice. They are the people who will find the slot at the crematorium or cemetery and they will be able to answer many of your questions.  If you would like the funeral to be led by one of our team of licensed and trained funeral ministers, you should state to the funeral directors that you would like the service to be led by a "minister of religion" or by a minister from Holy Trinity with St John's. They will then contact us to discuss the date, time and place of the funeral.

After that, one of us will phone or email you to arrange to meet. We will meet with you at a place of your choosing - in your home, in the Vicarage or in one of our church buildings - to talk about the person who has died and to think about the structure of the service. You will be asked to make some decisions about music and about who will share memories of your loved one during the service.  Depending on your needs and the time available, we may follow up this meeting with a further meeting or with a phone call or email to finalise the arrangements.

After the funeral, we will invite you to attend our annual Commemorative Service in late October or early November. During this service, we remember those we love who have died during the year or longer ago, and names are read out.

If you would like to talk further, please do contact Jessica, the vicar, by completing this form.

Planning your Visit

New to Church?

If you're coming to Holy Trinity with St John's for the first time, this information will help you know what to expect.

Where and When?

Our 8am service is at our Holy Trinity Site (location details here).

Our 10:30am service is at our St John's Site (location details here).

For more information about our different Sunday services, please click here.

What about my children?

We actively welcome families with children of all ages. If your child is a baby or a toddler, they will remain with you for the duration of the service. A welcomer will give you a Toddler Bag as you come in - these contain a variety of toys and games to entertain your child. We are aware that it can be very hard for a toddler to remain in their seat throughout the service. If your child is getting restless, there is space on the carpeted area at the back where they can move about - and don't worry at all if they make a noise!
